Thanks everyone. Just a quick note to those wondering: I have had a few reports of people claiming to be associated with or certified by the Academy who are not. Additionally, a verbatim copy of this thread was posted elsewhere with a few names changed by someone not associated with me in any way. Moderators have kindly deleted that post and warned the poster. I encourage healthy and honest competition and creative services and applaud anyone who wants to create a running business or other business of any kind. However, I draw the line at claiming affilliation with or impersonating me.
The graduates of the Academy are all listed in the second post of this thread. They are the certified runners you can absolutely trust. Others may be trustworthy, and they may not. One measure I am implementing shortly to protect the gaming public from potential frauds is this:
Knowing that not everyone in Guild Wars visits forums and knows who is a graduate of the academy and who is not, I am planning to give a sword to each of the graduates of my academy that is customized to myself. They will be able to have it in inventory and show it potential customers as a means of proving that they are in fact certified by me and can be trusted with payment for runs in advance. I plan to only give out swords customized with my name to the graduates of my Academy, so if someone else shows you one, you know who to trust.
Thanks.

That's a great idea.
Anyway, if anyone wants to drag a new student around, I'll be on almost every evening. I'm looking forward to learning from the masters.

I've seen a lvl 18 ranger doing LA-TOA without a single death.

They really should have given mesmers some kind of running skill in the game that didn't make then ultra slow right afterwards.
For those members of the Academy who are interested, we did create a guild specifically for the Academy. Students are regular members and graduates are officers. If you are in the Academy and want to join the guild, message me, Blurr, or Elita Coldheart. Joining is optional; you can stay in your current guild, but it is a nice feature for those interested.

Economics people!!!
Sitting here reading all of these posts, I realize that my econmics prof would love this thread. It's all about supply, demand, and opportunity costs. I'd elaborate more, but alas, I am off to economics.

Please elaborate whenever you have time. I'm always amazed to see how real life economics often play out in GW.

I for one know clearly the economics within GW clearly interact with the current economics, of online trading. Even within Ebay, people constantly sell items, including green, gold and even mass purple items. People are even setting up websites to sell the gold on most websites, and the reselling from individuals. When the Sorrows Furnance update came out, Gold from Ebay rose to over $120.00 USD. No gold has finally gone all the way back down to almost $50.00 USD for one million gold.
People are starting to realize that the eaisiest way to get money from the game is to simply order it from an online gaming company. I for one have bought over 500k gold from the online traders within the internet community. Simply because one again it is the easiest way to get the gold, other than finding 4 superior absorption runes in one single farming run.
To elaborate on the economics student, demand when Sorrows Furnace came out, the supply of Gold went down, becuase everyone wanted to buy the green and gold items that were dropping witin the new area.
Oppurtunity costs arive when one finds a place with the high demand so that one can easilly make money, hence the opputunity costs. This is also evaluated within the factor of what it costs one to actually do the "run" or service.
I hope that this helped everyone that wanted to know the changes between the cost and demand problems within GW. If you have any other questions, simply Private Message me on this forum, or contact me by sending me a private messge on GW, my in game name is Jagged Tron.

Jagged Tron

First, I'll go into supply and demand. This is the most widely known economic principle. Simply, the supply (in this case i will use LBS high quality running as the product) and the demand (those who want to skip parts of the game for various reasons) reach an equilibrium. LBS could possible charge more, and while she would make more money per run, the overall profit might be less, because fewer people could a)afford the runs or b)be willing to pay that much for a run. The marginal benefit to LBS of increasing the cost of each run would, thus, be a negative value.
Oppurtunity cost is a little more complex. In this case, the oppurtunity cost for someone paying for a run, is the time that they save by not having to go through all the missions and quests to get to their desired destination. Oppurtunity cost is the cost of the next best alternative. So if 75k is worth 2 hours of LBS's time and 2 weeks of playing is worth 75k to someone looking for an ascension run, then they both get something that they value more than the next best alternative, 2hours of random gameplay, 2 weeks of missions and quests.
There are many other economic theories that are prevelant in GW which i will post stuff on as i get around to it or as i come across it in class.
Enjoy,
Hanso Togakure

Yes, you can get the sword, i done that with that one and some of the ench 15% collectors swords. There comes a point thos when you have enough gold to get what ever sword you want, and the stats arent as important as the appearance.

Hanso Togakur and JaggedIce what about inflation? If more people are buying money off ebay, wouldn't that be dumping more money into the system? I've noticed the cost of weapons has risen. The uber 1337 staff that costed 4k back in May now costs 20k or more.

Hey Eat U Alive, I looked for you but didnt see you online, though I did get your PM. Yes the academy also has an optional guild with it that people may join in they choose to. It is not required, but does make it easier to know when runs are going on that you could watch.
For everyone else who has been asking: The updates today I really like, and it is still very possible to run droks. I did a run when I got home from work to see they effects of the update and made it first try. It is a little more annoying with more heretics in worse spots and much slower movement with some hexes, but I didn't die, so it can still be easily done with the right build and equipment.
